Vision, Mission & Values of The Journey

Vision:

We seek to glorify God by becoming an authentic community of Christ followers. Specifically, we desire to become a mission outpost in SE Wichita of 300-600 attendees, investing an ever increasing percentage of our budget to missions, planting churches, and fulfilling our kingdom niche.

Mission:

For God’s glory and by the power of Christ’s love, we nurture life-changing relationships

Values:

Authenticity:  We desire to grow in authenticity: Jesus seeks a genuine, honest faith in those who are called by His name; having a humble, teachable spirit is critical; we will honor the mystery of our infinite God.

Becoming:  We intend to honor the process of becoming: spiritual growth is a transformational process; development of a living faith is a journey; the historic question of our denomination that drives this value is “how goes your walk?”

Christ-Followers:  We are Christ-followers: Jesus is the center-point, the One thing that ultimately matters; the primary revelation of Jesus is found in Scripture; the historic question of our denomination that drives this value is “where is it written?”; Jesus’ central teaching in the Bible is the Kingdom of God, not earthly empires; as a result of our singular allegiance to King Jesus we value separation of church and state.

Community:  We want to reflect our triune God who exists in community: restored relationships with God and one another are central to our mission; the Bible speaks of a Spirit-led kionia, a participation together in God’s grace; one manifestation of this value is a commitment intergenerational community where all ages and stages of God’s family work together to honor Christ and build up the body; this requires an empowerment and celebration the unity in our diversity.

Outreach:  God’s missional call on us compels outreach: lost people matter to God and therefore to us; our grateful response to the unique community He gives us fuels evangelism; the manifestation of this burden is evidenced in prayer for pre-Christians, relational evangelism, acts of service and other intentional efforts to be salt and light.

Worship:  Ultimately we are becoming vessels of worship: God is seeking worshippers in Spirit and in truth; as a result, we seek to offer our lives as living sacrifices through acts of personal and corporate worship; the Christian walk is ultimately about God’s glory, not our personal agendas.

Prayer:  Prayer is our dwelling place with God: the Holy Spirit desires to commune with us 24x7; prayer produces dependence on and intimacy with God; prayer is hard spiritual work in a serious spiritual battle; God always answers prayer according to His perfect timing and will.
