Brent Thompson, Pastor By God’s grace, my wife Patty and I have enjoyed 28 years of marriage. We have five sons, ages 26 to 19 and two daughter-in-loves. My education includes a BS in Business Administration from Kansas State University (1980) and a Master of Divinity from Denver Seminary (2000). I worked 3 years in sales for IBM in Topeka, 13 years in sales and management for BANK IV in Wichita, 3 years in various pastoral roles at Centennial Community Church in Littleton, Colorado, and for the last 6 years as pastor of The Journey. I was raised in a churched home by loving parents, but I spent my first 33 years as merely a cultural Christian. As an adult, I was actively involved in the church in a variety of capacities. My theology, however, was works based; I rationalized sin and really didn’t have a clue about grace. Fortunately, I came to the end of myself and my counterfeit faith in late 1991. Since then, I have found a passion and a purpose I never knew existed. As a result, I have embraced the following mission statement: Empowered by God’s love, I want to worship Him by influencing others to grow in Christ at all times. I fall short more times than not, but thankfully God grants mulligans! Speaking of mulligans, I do like to swing a golf club. In the winter I pretend to hunt ducks (don’t worry, your Mallards are safe with me). I have also succumbed to one of the occupational hazards of preaching, I am a registered book-oholic! But, my favorite pastime is putting the top down on our 91 Miata and driving anywhere with my bride. Patty Thompson, Christian Formation Christian Formation in its essence is growing toward wholeness in Christ. It involves discipleship but does not stop there. At The Journey, we are being formed and discovering what it means to “…in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ.” Ephesians 4:15. I serve as the Director of Christian Formation and yes, my husband is Brent, the pastor of The Journey. We have the privilege of serving together on staff. We have 5 boys ranging from age 26 to 18. We are also blessed to have girls in the family as our second son is married and our third son is engaged. I am completing my Masters of Arts in Christian Education in May 2008. I have been involved in the church all of my adult life, mostly in ministry to children. I am honored to be involved in the growing ministry of Christian Formation at The Journey. Keith McEntire, Journey Youth "God doesn't need me, but He wants me," these words have echoed in my head and my heart for some time now. Accepting Jesus into my life at the age 11 has taken my life in a direction I could never predict. Living the simple life in small-town Valley Center, my life wasn't always simple. But knowing that God wants me in the good times and in the bad means the world to me. With the amazing blessings of marrying my wife Leah and doing what God has called me to do, being an adult is pretty awesome. Being the youth pastor at the Journey has been great, challenging, a blessing, and sometimes chaotic, but I love it. How cool would it be teenagers growing more in love with their God, and growing together as a group! So that we can take this journey together, and realize we are never alone.
